My study of Telecoms Engineering at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT) in Madrid comprised:
- linear algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, technical drawing
- electrical machinery, electronics, mechanics, surveying, radioastronomy, industrial processes, electronic components
- network analysis and synthesis, electromagnetic fields, microwaves, antennas, transmitters and receivers
- statistics, advanced maths, information and modulation theory, industrial instrumentation, telecontrol systems, economics
- computer architecture, programming languages (assembler and Fortran)
My diploma was in the field of wireless communications.
In the course of my professional career I had training and acquired hands-on experience in the following topics:
- real-time computers for process control, operating systems and programming
- hardware configuration and programming of Intel 8085/x8086 microprocessors (in Assembler, PLM and Pascal)
- development of mathematical software (in FORTRAN) for computing and controlling the power flow of electric grids.
- cryptography, hashing and symmetric/asymmetric algorithms; I programmed several of them in Assembler, Pascal, C ...
- Hardware Security Modules, microcontroller based. I did the design and programmed them in C.
- IBM Series 1 software system to handle the HSMs (in Series 1 Assembler).
- Configuration of SNA VTAM/NCP
- Design and support of a VISA card online autorization system, using Stratus fault-tolerant computers.
- Analysis and requirements of smart card functionality for identity and payment purposes.
- Analysis, requirements and validation of SIM cards for the mobile communications area
- Specification of java card SIM applications. Programming and validation of some of them.
- Program management of developments for 3G SIMs with public key cryptography
- Product management of SIM programming and mobile handset validation tools
- Product management of contactless (NFC) SIMs
I did substantial development in Assembler, C, Python and Ruby.
